Hackathon “100 ideas for cities” is an initiative aimed at the development and implementation of innovative ideas architectural solutions for the restoration of Ukrainian cities, primarily infrastructure.
Ukrainian and international architectural bureaus and institutions of higher education participate in the Hackathon in the following areas:
- Construction
- Architecture
- Urban planning
- Engineering directions
And also the cities of Ukraine, which provide their technical tasks and initial data.
As part of the Hackathon, participants develop and present restoration projects for specific urban areas, objects, and infrastructure systems based on technical tasks and initial data.
After development, winners are selected on a competitive basis.
GOAL:
DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF 100 INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTS FOR RENOVATION OF UKRAINE CITIES
Directions
Projects aimed at restoring important social facilities: hospitals, schools, kindergartens, sports and residential complexes, etc.
Parks, squares, spaces for young people and the elderly, cultural events, educational institutions, etc.
Projects focused on efficient use of urban space and its optimization. Strategic development of the territorial community, the city, industrial parks, economic initiatives, interchanges, garbage sorting lines, etc.

Architect from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Master of Arts in Housing and Urbanism from the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, UK, he has vast experience in the design, development, management and comprehensive management of infrastructure projects, especially in the development and execution of large, medium and small scale mining, industrial, port, energy and real estate projects, developed in the public and private sector, both in Chile and internationally. He is an international consultant in creative anti-seismic architectural design and an expert in the reconstruction process of cities destroyed by wars and natural disasters.
Olena Yampolska is an experienced civil engineer and developer with 20 years of experience in implementing successful projects. He is a recognized international expert in spatial planning, urban renewal, design and public relations. One of the greatest achievements of Olena Yampolska is the development of a unique method of rebuilding cities after destruction, which combines innovative technological and social approaches. Experience and expertise made it possible to develop and implement projects for the renewal of the urban environment and infrastructure in Ukraine. Olena is a GIP in a number of landmark projects in Ukraine and an invited speaker at international and Ukrainian conferences.

The director of WZMH Architects is leading the development of the firm’s prefab sector with the invention of the Intelligent Structural Panel (ISP). In 2017, Zenon founded the firm’s research laboratory (Sparkbird), which focuses on smart building technologies. Zenon joined WZMH in 1995 and became a director of the firm in 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Architecture from Ryerson University in Toronto.
Japanese architect and urban planner with over two decades of expertise in the Netherlands, leads MADMA urbanism+landscape and MASA architects, guiding a diverse team in executing global projects. Matsuura is well-known in Ukraine for projects such as the Unit.City Main Plaza, Metinvest Polytechnic University in Mariupol, and the current redevelopment of the State Taxation University in Irpin.
Head of the Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management of the Verkhovna Rada. Member of Parliament of Ukraine, who is a consistent supporter and ambassador of the Green Course for the restoration of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. According to the 2023 ratings, Oleg Bondarenko was named one of the biggest reformers (6th place in the top 12 ranking of the reformers among deputies of Parliament). Namely, Oleg is an initiator of reforms in waste management, chemical safety, subsoil use, climate change prevention etc.
She is a multicultural and future-focused creative leader. Originally trained as a designer, she also holds MS and MBA degrees, which expanded her expertise into academia, research, and strategy consulting. Her projects spanning across the globe, including in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. She uses design thinking as a tool to solve complex challenges and continues to expand the design discipline into new dimensions. Her current interests include data-driven design and creative entrepreneurship, which inform both her role as a Senior Strategist at Gensler and her role as a faculty member of The George Washington University’s Interior Architecture program.
An environmental restoration specialist at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine; a biotechnology engineer; a scientist (by first degree), worked on the development of sectoral climate change adaptation measures in the EU4Climate project; a landscape architect (by second degree), participated in the collection and creation of the largest botanical garden in Zakarpattia.

Luigi Fiumara graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at „La Sapienza“ University in Rome. From 2000 to 2010 he has been in charge of the architecture department of the Goetheanum, School for spiritual science, in Dornach, Switzerland. He is member of the Swiss Association of Architects and Engineers (SIA), Chairman of the International Forum “Humanity and Architecture” (Netherlands) and Honorary Professor of the KNUBA (Kyiv National University for Construction and Archtecture). He is a recognized international expert and representative of the stream of Organic Architecture, which takes its origins from the work of architects like Antoni Gaudí, Rudolf Steiner, Frank Lloyd Wright, Hans Scharoun and others and whose main intent is to create an environment which satisfies not only the material needs of the human being, but also and not less the emotional and spiritual ones, giving birth to buildings which convey a sense of inner life and of connection with the context and which foster the personal and social development of the users. His projects were built in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Ukraine, Romania and India.
Zoryana Tykhonchuk is an architect and urban planning expert with successful experience in developing projects for well-known companies (McDonald’s, Franke, Football Federation of Ukraine). She is an expert in developing concepts for the decoration of checkpoints. Demonstrates a high professional level in tenders and competitions, including competition with global architectural firms. Expert in strategic industries and unique areas of community business, speaker at platforms on the reconstruction of Ukraine, moderator of the triangle: government, community, business. Developer of landmark reconstruction projects based on the mission: modernization instead of restoration.
